Apple iPads and AppleCare

We Get Around Network Founder Dan Smigrod recommends buying an Apple 10.5-include iPad Pro 512 GB with Cellular with AppleCare and a grip case (less likely to drop and much easier to hold the iPad while moving the tripod).

"The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is too heavy and big for scanning all day long," says Dan. "Unless you absolutely need the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, go with the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. Plus, the 10,5-inch iPad Pro has a faster chip that that the older iPad. This means scanning will be faster." 

"I recommend 512 GB because Matterport does not have a backup solution (as of 3 July 2017), plus the Matterport Pro2 3D Camera is likely to create bigger files," says Dan. "If you buy a 64 GB, you will regret it as soon as you fill up your iPad and then have to decide what to do when you run out of space on your iPad."

"Even if you are not planning to use Cellular, get this feature to keep your options open," says Dan. "As soon as we complete a scan, we immediately begin uploading. If you are an hour from your home or office, this hour head start on uploading may mean being able to edit the model one more time before going to bed."
